OakLeaf Plantation Welcomes Second Elementary School

April 20th, 2007 — OakLeaf Plantation will soon be home to Clay County's newest education facility prototype, currently known as School "W". At a ground breaking ceremony on Thursday, the Superintendent of Schools, David Owens, and four of the five school board members attended the event.

Situated on the border of Duval and Clay Counties, OakLeaf Plantation is a 6,400-acre, master planned community, which has become one of the fastest-growing, fastest-selling developments in the northeast Florida region.

Elementary School "W" will be located on a 30 acre site at 410 OakLeaf Village Parkway which is at the intersection of OakLeaf Village Parkway and Plantation Oaks Drive.

"I know we will build a beautiful facility, but the important thing is that a lot of lives will be molded in this school" said, David Owens, Clay County Superintendent of Schools.

The facility is planned for nearly 128,000 square feet and will be home to 45 classrooms, one music classroom and one computer classroom for children attending K-6 grades. The school will open as a K-5 facility and will add sixth grade once the school is open. School "W" is nearly double the size of Argyle Elementary school due to the state mandated classroom amendment.

Owens added that, "We anticipate that this may be the first school in our county that could have a walk zone meaning that this could be the first school that doesn't have children bused in."

The school's development team is being lead by the Project Contractor, Skanska USA Building, Inc., McCullar and Boatright Architect, P.A. in association with Paul Stressing Associated, Inc. The total construction for school "W" is $22,688,707.00.

OakLeaf Platation feature more than 1,400 acres of preservation area; two multimillion dollar amenity centers; five planned schools; two retail village centers; 5.8 million square feet of commercial, office and industrial space and 15 miles of walking and biking paths. OakLeaf has set the standard for master-planned communities and has maintained a strong foundation of family-friendly development practices, creating a unique natural, residential and commercial environment.
